For the
first time in many years, Maharashtra Mandal London held a function on
May 1st Maharashtra Day for celebration of achievements of all
proud
achievers in different fields such as academic, sports, music, literature
and many more. The day was graced by the presence of Deputy High Commissioner
of India, Mr Bagchi who presented awards to all winners.
The function
started with a welcome note by President Viju Kale followed
with songs presented by Shilpa Khurjekar, Gayatri Athalye and accompanied
artists. Speeches were then presented by Dr Bhide, Colonel Deshpande and
Mukund Nawathe and Mr Bagchi.
All achievers
from various age-groups were awarded certificates and
mementos. The following is the list of all achievers awarded on the day
(in
alphabetical order) :
Ms Sachi Amdekar for writing an illustrated book on '1001 illustrated verbs'
published by Khalsa college London,
Ms Reshma Banarase for Graduation in Political Science with International
Studies from Birmingham University,
Ms Smita Bapat for successfully achieving a MB ChB from Aberdeen
University,
Master Ishaan Kumar Batra for raising funds for Charity Organisations
like
the British Heart foundation and Leukaemia,
Dr Vivek Bhadri for Successfully achieving Fellowship of the Royal
Australian College of Physicians,
Dr Alka Bhide for successfully achieving a BSc in Pharmacology
and MBBS from Royal Free College of Medicine,
Mr Chinmay Datar for achieving 100 % GCSE results in Mathematics,
Dr Jagdish Dave for receiving special award from Gujarat govt for
PhD work
on comparative study of Gujarati and Marathi Drama,
Ms Shilpa Gandhe for successfully achieving First class honours
in Master of Medical Engineering, standing First in University and winning
the Marian Janota Prize for outstanding academic achievement,
Dr Vijay Jadhav for successfully fighting against racism in the
NHS and winning at an employment tribunal hearing against the Secretary
of State for Health,
Dr Sameer Khurjekar for qualifying from the GKT hospital, University
of London,
Mr Shashank Kothare for qualifying as an Actuary and becoming the
Director of Russell Global Investment,
Mr Rajnikant Mehta for a distinguished career including publication
of 4 Gujarati and 1 English book,
Dr Vasant Naik for A distinguished career including authoring over
35 books to date,
Dr Joideep Phadnis for successfully passing MBCHD from Sheffield
University,
Mr Amit Pimple for being awarded the International Graduate fellowship
of the year by London Metropolitan University,
Mr Vijay
Vishampayan and Mr Prasad Pitale for their joint efforts, initiative
and dedication in successfully launching a Cricket Club: Peshwa 11 for
Maharashtrians in UK,
Dr Aparna Shah for Graduating in Jun 2003- a MBBS with honours
from
St Bartholomews and Royal London School of Medicine, University
of London,
Ms Maneesha Sonawane for successfully winning the Royal Institute
of British Architects Award for Excellence,
Mrs Shaila Wad for successfully winning Voice of the Week on ATN
Television and
Ms Anushka Wad for successfully passing Bachelors with honours
in Medical
Engineering.
Each achiever spoke briefly after receiving the award. The function
concluded with Marathi Entertainment songs presented by Shilpa Khurjekar,
Shalaka Joshi and company. The programme ended with Rajeev Subhedar thanking
the artists and people enjoying the snacks.
